This session will explore attachment and trauma basics, trauma treatment history, and intervention research.
This session will cover the basics of attachment, trauma, the history of trauma treatment and categorization, and intervention research. It will also review CBT-inspired treatments, including an overview of conceptualization strategies using cognitive therapy. Intervention strategies will focus on addressing stress and mood regulation. Hypothetical case examples and opportunities for participant discussion will be presented.

Charles Jacob, PhD, is a psychologist, research scientist, and author with over 20 years of clinical experience conducting and overseeing the delivery of mental health services to individuals with severe mood and personality disorders. He is a recognized expert in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and has delivered workshops, seminars, and courses on these topics at universities and institutions throughout the world. He has held numerous academic positions, and currently works as a research associate for a Washington DC-based consulting firm. He is a past president of the ACA’s Pennsylvania branch and has been a featured interviewee on several episodes of NPR’s The Pulse.

After this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the effects of trauma, specifically its impact on functioning and possible etiology of client struggles.
  • Implement CBT-oriented interventions that facilitate empathy in the therapeutic relationship.
  • Utilize appropriate evidence-based interventions to assist a client in coping with the physical and psychological manifestations of trauma (e.g., depression and anxiety).

All Other States

All other states accept ASWB ACE Provider credits and NBCC-approved CE provider credits. Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their jurisdictions. States and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for credit.

Canada

Most Canadian jurisdictions accept ASWB ACE-approved provider programs to meet licensure renewal requirements.  Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their province.
