Unpacking Grief: The Good the Bad & the Complicated

Unpacking Grief: The Good the Bad & the Complicated

Oct. 4, 2025

10:00 AM - 1:15 PM (EST)

Virtual Event
3 CE Credits
Grief is often unspoken, yet it quietly shapes every aspect of our clients’ lives. Traditional talk therapy may fall short in addressing its complexity. In this presentation, you’ll be introduced to The Five Written Expressions of Grief™—a therapeutic process designed to move clients through unresolved grief toward healing. Developed over 25 years, this process allows clients to process through writing, which is shared and processed in session. The 5WE’s; for short, is a powerful tool for those who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or have difficulty expressing verbally. Gain tools to help clients feel seen, supported, and empowered in their journey.
We often tiptoe around our grief—hesitant to speak about it, and unaware of how deeply it permeates every part of our lives. Grief is rarely explored through the lens of healing, yet it is insidious and frequently goes unrecognized as the root of our clients’ pain. This universal experience carries countless, often overlooked, consequences that shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. In my clinical work, I’ve found that talk therapy alone is not always enough to facilitate the depth of healing our clients long for. That’s why I developed The Five Written Expressions of Grief™—a structured, therapeutic process designed to help clients navigate complicated and unresolved grief with greater clarity and intention. This presentation is designed to deepen your clinical understanding of grief and provide practical tools to support your clients. Together, we will explore how to help them feel less alone, rekindle hope, and move toward authentic healing.

Gigi Veasey, LCSW, LISAC, CCBT

Having worked with thousands of patients and clients across the United States, Gigi Veasey, LCSW, LISAC, CCBT, is a Psychotherapist, Grief Expert, Author and Consultant in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. Over the last 40 years, Gigi has worked in hospitals, inpatient treatment facilities, and with families and organizations helping individuals manage their experiences with grief and loss. She shares her expertise and passion for this subject through lectures, intensive workshops, and private one-on-one sessions, and helps individuals understand that while grief and loss can create foundational changes in their lives, there is always hope for growth and healing.

Gigi brought this important topic to several residential treatment facilities as a three-day intensive workshop, where for the last eight years, she has engaged with the patients to help them understand the significance of a wide range of losses, and griefs impact on mental health, sobriety and connection with others. She published her first book on the subject: “Me After You: Surviving The Loss of a Loved One” in September 2021.

Ms. Veasey is also the founder of Alcohol Recovery Solutions where, for the last 25 years, she has helped those struggling with substance use find their way through addiction, depression, anxiety, and trauma to rediscover self and move toward a hopeful, full life. In her private practice, her expertise is in working along side clients to see their true potential beyond their barriers such as anxiety, co-dependency, and self- esteem issues and unresolved/complicated grief.

After this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between complicated, chronic, and delayed grief, including key diagnostic and clinical features.
  2. Identify the various roles within a client’s support system and assess their impact on the grieving and healing process.
