Telehealth Through a Cultural Lens: Ethics, Equity, and Clinical Care

May 1, 2026

10:00 AM - 1:15 PM (EST)

Virtual Event
3 CE Ethics Credits or 3 CE Cultural Competence Credits
Telehealth is here to stay — but are we using it in ways that truly serve clients from diverse cultural backgrounds? This practical workshop explores how culture, identity, and lived experience shape the way client’s access and experience telehealth care. Participants will learn how technology can both support and unintentionally create barriers in therapy, discover evidence-based telehealth practices that promote culturally responsive care, and gain tools to navigate ethical challenges like privacy, access, and digital equity. Participants will walk away with concrete strategies to strengthen connection, increase engagement, and deliver more inclusive and effective care in virtual settings. Ideal for counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other helping professionals committed to ethical, equitable telehealth practice.

The rapid expansion of telehealth has transformed the delivery of mental health services, creating new opportunities as well as complex clinical and ethical considerations. This presentation examines telehealth practice through a cultural lens, highlighting how technology influences therapeutic engagement, access to care, and clinical outcomes for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Participants will explore evidence-based telehealth approaches that support culturally responsive care and examine common client experiences and perceptions of technology in treatment. Ethical considerations, including confidentiality, informed consent, and equity in access to digital resources, will be discussed in the context of multicultural competence and professional standards. The session also provides practical strategies clinicians can apply to enhance cultural responsiveness, reduce digital disparities, and support effective therapeutic relationships in virtual settings. This program is designed for mental health professionals seeking to strengthen their ethical decision-making and clinical effectiveness in telehealth practice.
