Counseling in the Digital Age: Unveiling the Potential & Pitfalls of Telehealth and AI

Aug. 22, 2026

10:00 AM - 1:15 PM (EST)

Virtual Event
3 Ethics CE Credits
Is artificial technology reshaping the counseling profession — but are we prepared? From virtual therapy rooms to AI-powered documentation tools, today’s clinicians are navigating a rapidly evolving digital landscape. While telehealth has increased access and flexibility, artificial intelligence is now entering clinical spaces in ways that challenge our ethics, boundaries, and professional identity.

The rapid integration of telehealth and artificial intelligence (AI) into behavioral health care is transforming the delivery of counseling services. While digital tools expand access, enhance clinical efficiency, and introduce innovative modalities of care, they also raise complex ethical, cultural, and clinical concerns. This presentation critically examines the evolving role of telehealth and AI in counseling practice through the lenses of professional ethics, equity, clinical effectiveness, and risk management. Participants will explore current evidence regarding tele-mental health outcomes, emerging AI applications in documentation and clinical support, and the ethical implications of data privacy, informed consent, algorithmic bias, and scope of practice. Special attention will be given to cultural responsiveness, digital disparities, and the impact of technology on therapeutic presence and alliance. Through case examples, guided discussion, and applied ethical decision-making models, participants will strengthen their competence in responsibly integrating telehealth and AI into clinical practice while safeguarding client welfare and maintaining professional standards.
