Clinical Foundations for Treating BPD: From Diagnosis to Therapeutic Alliance

Dec. 12, 2025

10:00 AM - 1:15 PM (EST)

Virtual Event
3 CE Credits
Borderline Personality Disorder is one of the most misunderstood—and often stigmatized— diagnoses in the DSM. In this dynamic 3-hour training, clinicians will gain a clearer, more compassionate understanding of BPD, from its clinical roots to its diverse presentations. You’ll walk away with practical tools for introducing the diagnosis with clarity and hope, engaging clients more effectively, and strengthening your clinical confidence in working with this complex population.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most misunderstood and at times, most stigmatized, diagnoses in the DSM. In this engaging, three-hour training, clinicians will gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of BPD by breaking it down into clear, digestible parts.  We’ll start by exploring the historical evolution and clinical origins of the diagnosis, examining how it has been shaped (and misjudged) over time. From there, we’ll take a closer look at diagnostic criteria, symptoms, and the wide range of BPD presentations, including key subtypes that can help guide treatment planning. Clinicians will learn practical strategies to engage clients who identify with, or are working toward understanding, their diagnosis of BPD. Special attention will be given to ways of introducing the diagnosis with compassion, clarity, and hope, so that clients feel empowered rather than pathologized. This presentation is rooted in respect, evidence-based practice, and real-world clinical application. Whether you’re brand new to BPD or looking to sharpen your lens, this workshop will leave you with a stronger clinical foundation and greater confidence in your work with this population.

Lexi Mulee, LMHC, CASAC-T, C-DBT, is the founder and owner of Wise Mind Counseling, a thriving DBT-based private practice in New York City. She specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and applies it in her work with individuals navigating Borderline Personality Disorder, Eating Disorders, and Substance Use Disorders, with a particular passion for supporting LGBTQIA+
youth.  Lexi earned her undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and her graduate degree from the University of Miami. With over a decade of experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, she believes effective therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Her approach is highly individualized, strengths-based, and deeply collaborative, rooted in the DBT principle that client and clinician are equal partners, rowing together toward the client’s goals.  Beyond her clinical work, Lexi is a highly sought-after speaker and educator, known for her dynamic, relatable, and engaging teaching style—often compared to the likes of Brené Brown. Whether through storytelling, humor, or interactive exercises, Lexi has a knack for making even the most complex concepts feel accessible, inspiring, and fun to learn.

After this training, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the historical and clinical development of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD),
