Human trafficking is a multi-billion-dollar industry, impacting millions worldwide, including here in the U.S. This workshop equips clinicians to identify trafficking victims, understand its psychological effects, and provide effective treatment. Learn to address trauma bonds, brainwashing, and PTSD, guiding survivors on their path to healing.
Human trafficking is a multi-billion-dollar business with tens of millions of victims worldwide. Of the five types of human trafficking, we see three here in the United States. This workshop will focus on the identification of the various types of human trafficking, the psychological effects of trafficking, and how to treat those forms of psychological effects when they enter your office.  As we look at how to overcome brainwashing, trauma bonds, and PTSD, we will walk beside our clients as they travel from victim to survivor.

Shari Kim, PhD

Shari Kim has been in the mental health field for 25 years. She was trained in EMDR in 2019 and has provided regular consultation services since becoming a CIT in 2020. Her areas of expertise are Dissociation and DID, complex trauma, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation. She currently operates a private practice in Baltimore, MD.  Passionate about social justice, Dr. Kim also serves as the Chair of the Social Justice Subcommittee of the Legislative Committee for the Maryland Psychological Association, the Co-Chair of the Social Action Committee at Bolton Street Synagogue, and as a member of the Baltimore City Human Trafficking Collaborative. She has also served with the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health team since 2016, currently serving as Coordinator for the DC and Northern Virginia area.

After this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the five types of human trafficking.
  • Explain how trauma bonds are formed in the context of trafficking.
  • Describe how traffickers use various illicit drugs to promote brainwashing and to create an
    invisible “leash.”

All Other States

All other states accept ASWB ACE Provider credits and NBCC-approved CE provider credits. Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their jurisdictions. States and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for credit.

Canada Social Workers

BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, and QC accept ASWB ACE-approved provider programs to meet licensure renewal requirements.  Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their province. Provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for credit.

Canada Counsellors
