Discover how shame impacts trauma recovery and gain practical strategies to help clients heal. In this powerful session, Katelyn Baxter-Musser, LCSW, shares clinical tools to identify and reduce shame, foster resilience, and support lasting change. Plus, learn how to prioritize your own well-being while doing this vital work.
Shame can have a profound and complex impact on clients who have experienced trauma. It often exacerbates the distress caused by trauma and can impede the healing process. As such, addressing the role that shame plays in a client’s trauma and recovery process is a critical aspect of therapy. Internalized feelings of self-blame and guilt distort the client’s self-image and self-esteem. Often leading to a pervasive self of unworthiness, self-sabotaging and avoidance behaviors, and a belief that they are undeserving of a better life. In this presentation, Katelyn Baxter-Musser, LCSW will provide you with clinical skills and practical strategies to recognizing the presence of shame and provide clients with tools to reduce shame and build resilience. During this presentation, clinicians will also review the importance of self-care and maintaining their own well-being while working in this challenging field.
