This seminar introduces key DBT skills that can be adapted to support clients with anxiety. You’ll explore current research, learn practical distress tolerance and emotion regulation tools, and see them applied in a case example you can bring directly into your practice.
This seminar will provide an overview of specific Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and interventions that can be adapted to help clients struggling with anxiety. The seminar will open with discussion of current research related to anxiety generally, an overview of DBT and relevant skills, and will conclude with a case example demonstrating the basics of distress tolerance and emotion regulation in practice.

Charles Jacob, PhD, is a psychologist, research scientist, and author with over 20 years of clinical experience conducting and overseeing the delivery of mental health services to individuals with severe mood and personality disorders. He is a recognized expert in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and has delivered workshops, seminars, and courses on these topics at universities and institutions throughout the world. He has held numerous academic positions, and currently works as a research associate for a Washington DC-based consulting firm. He is a past president of the ACA’s Pennsylvania branch and has been a featured interviewee on several episodes of NPR’s The Pulse.

After this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the basics of current and past research related to stress and anxiety as well as recent trends connected to global events.
  • Describe basic DBT interventions that help clients to more effectively tolerate distress or regulate their emotional response.
  • Utilize appropriate scholarship-supported interventions under the umbrella of emotion regulation and distress tolerance to assist a client in managing powerful emotions.

  • You notify us at least 72 hours before the event start time.
  • Credit is valid for up to 6 months from the original event date.
  • No credit will be issued for no-shows or cancellations made on the same day.

All other states accept ASWB ACE Provider credits and NBCC-approved CE provider credits. Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their jurisdictions. States and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for credit.

Florida Certification Board

Clinical Events is approved by the Florida Certification Board (FCB) to offer continuing education programs (Provider # 5527-A).

Canada Social Workers

BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, and QC accept ASWB ACE-approved provider programs to meet licensure renewal requirements.  Licensees are responsible for determining whether courses meet the CE requirements in their province.
